New York Beauty Blog Hop for Island Batik!!

Posted on June 27, 2022June 26, 2022 by Jane Hauprich

For this months project, as an Island Batik Ambassador, we are all part of the New York Beauty Blog Hop!! This meant we had to make a New York Beauty quilt!!

I have to say that I was scared about doing this, as I am not a huge fan of paper piecing. I have quilted quite a few New York Beauty quilts for customers, but now I had to make one!! Uh oh!!! And did I mention that I am also not a fan of curved piecing!!! Yikes!! This quilt has both!!!

I had received Woodcut Blossoms fabric line to work with, and was super excited about it!! This fabric line was designed by Kathy Engle for Heidi Pridemore, The Whimsical Workshop.

I also was sent a dark blue (Ocean) and light blue (Bluebelle) companion fabrics to use with this fabric line. They were the perfect choice!!

My first step was to plan a quilt out in EQ8. Here is a picture of the quilt that I had wanted to make.

Well………sometimes life gets in the way. I was unexpectedly hospitalized for a few days and then needed to spend some time at home recuperating. Because of that, I was now behind on quilting customer quilts and piecing this quilt. Sometimes, you just have to make choices, so I made the choice to make it smaller than I had anticipated, so that I could be done in time for my blog hop day!!

I worked hard at the paper piecing and got this done!! I am not a pinner, but it really does help when doing curved piecing.

I do love how it turned out and I can actually say that I truly didn’t mind the paper piecing with this one!!

And I used this Island Batik fabric (Dot-Sky) for the backing, which I think worked very well.

I even did some faux piped binding, which I think adds a little something to the quilt!! Did I mention that I used my Schmetz needles for this project along with my HQ Stitch 510?

When I was ready to quilt this, I used Hobbs cotton batting. This was quilted using my ProStitcher on my Handi Quilter Amara. The pattern is called Malachite.

I am loving this lap quilt and happy with the outcome!!!

Did I mention that I am having a giveaway???

I am giving away a fat quarter stack of this entire fabric line!! To enter, head over to my FB page and leave a comment on the New York Beauty post. If you go over to my YouTube channel and subscribe, you will get an additional entry. Contest ends at midnight (ET) on June 30, and the winner will be chosen the morning of July 1, 2022.

Disclaimer: No purchase necessary to win. Giveaway is open to legal residents in the contiguous US only that are 18+ years of age. One winner will receive a stack of fat quarters (approx. size).
