This month as an Island Batik Ambassador, we were challenged to make a Creative Christmas Stocking. As I didn’t have much Christmas-y type fabric, I went looking through what I had, and I figured that this wonderful line of fabric would work just great!!!
This is Paisley Got Mod by Kate Colleran Designs. This is a line of fabric that I had the privilege to work with in September of this year, and I absolutely loved it!! Click here to read about that project.
I decided to use a regular stocking that I already had and using freezer paper, I made a template for myself.
I then used that template to cut out the batting and backing and was then ready to sew!!
I knew that I wanted to do a Quilt As You Go method and do some string type piecing. I layered the backing and batting and then sewed and flipped the strips as I went along. This way it was quilted and just needed to be assembled.
Once both sides were done, I put the two pieces of the stocking together and added a top fabric for the cuff and a loop for hanging. It all worked out so well!! I just love how bright and festive this turned out.
I had some strips left over and didn’t want to waste any of this gorgeous fabric, so I made a double sided placemat for my dogs water and food bowl too.
A special thanks to the following for providing the materials for making these items: Island Batik, Hobbs Batting, Aurifil and Schmetz Needles.
Make sure to check out what the other Island Batik Ambassadors have done this month!!
