These are certainly unprecedented and worrisome times that we are all facing right now. Our lives have all changed overnight and we are living in our “new” normal lives for now.
While this is a scary time and many of us are “social distancing” in our homes, I thought I would make a more concerted effort to post more frequently with some of the beautiful quilts I have had the opportunity to work on.
I think a lot of us are probably spending time at our sewing machines, and I am hoping to find time to be able to piece some tops and to do some quilting. I don’t know about you, but doing these things certainly takes my mind off of what is happening for a bit.
Here is a recent wall hanging that I finished. The pattern is from Mary Lou Weidman. This will hang when we have family birthday celebrations in the future.
Plan to hear from me soon.
Stay safe and take care!!!
Love,y idea for family birthdays! The design is clever and colorful. Thanks for sharing! . . . I had signed up for one of your classes at MQX. I will miss learning from you!
Eileen – I’m so sorry I won’t get to see you in my class!! This is beyond surreal right now. What class were you taking? I’m trying to figure out a way I can bring my classes to those that are interested by doing something online if I get enough interest. Stay safe and well!!!!
Hi Jane,
I signed up for Going Beyond the Stencil. I haven’t used stencils very much with Pounce. I worry about it clogging the machine! I tend to use pencil or air erase marker when I use stencils. Or, I trace the design on to Golden Threads paper.
Thanks for keeping us posted with your latest projects. Today I finally mailed out 2 baby quilts to friends and family. Working on the labels for 2 more for my husband’s piano teacher’s children. Then I am tackling some mini quilts for our ‘Mini Auction’ during our September Quilt Guild Show!
Stay safe and well!
Eileen
If I get a chance I’ll try to work on a video about what this class was about and how you can use stencils in all different ways.
Stay well!!
Thank you, Jane, for thinking of us! I, too, am in my sewing room trying to finish up odds and ends.
Love your birthday wall hanging! When I started piecing (I leave the quilting to the pros!) 20 or so years ago I fell in love with MaryLou Weidman. I didn’t know what I was doing but I gave it the old school try. Must not have been impressed with my work because I don’t see any of it anywhere in this house!
You, too, stay safe and take care. Hunkering down is perfect for us sewists, dontcha think?
I don’t have any of my work around the house from when I first started either!!! Lol!!!
Hoping to get a bunch of piecing and quilting done during this time.
I love your quilting, and believe you to be an inspired teacher, and I will say it again here. I am glad to have this “smaller” space to see what you are doing and share ideas with others. Like many of us, I have spent more time sewing and quilting recently than I have in the past.Cooking and baking, too. And my husband and I looked at each other this morning and said, “what happened to us? Why haven’t we been doing more of this?” By that he meant, these domestic simplicities that are giving us pleasure in ways that we remember, and we could have been doing it all along, but somehow we have been in ruts that excluded those pleasures. It has taken a “plague” to jog our memories, so I am counting that as a “silver lining.” Also, I listened to a wonderful podcast this morning—Terry Gross interviewing the conductor of the Phila. Orchestra, and realized how much I love to quilt to classical music. Why had I stopped doing that? Don’t know. But this morning, I will restart that habit. Stay well all.
I’m wondering if we will all go back to simpler times!!! Stay well!!
