I was recently asked to quilt this gorgeous quilt. My customer, Rosemary, took three years to get the wool applique exactly as she wanted it. I’m so glad that she asked me to do this one!!!
Twilight Garden is a quilt pattern by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings.
I have to say I was a little afraid of quilting this quilt. After all, three years of work went into the making of this. Wow!! This quilt measures 90″ x 90″, and is made of beautiful and extensive wool applique on flannel, so it is pretty darn heavy!!!
My intent was to come up with a cohesive plan that would accent the wool work. I was pretty happy with the outcome!!
Here are the products I used:
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Cotton and Quilter’s Dream Wool.
Thread: Superior Threads Monopoly (for the stitching around all the applique) and MicroQuilter (100 weight) for all the fill work.
Quilting: This was all free motion quilted on my Handi Quilter Amara.
I am going to let the pictures tell the story for the rest of this blog post. Just know that I thoroughly enjoyed every step of the process with this quilt!! It was an honor to be entrusted with this work of art.
I also wanted to show you some of the detail of the wool work and handwork on this masterpiece!! Do you see all of those little berries? They are about the size of the end of an eraser!!! Wow!!!
I hope that you enjoyed seeing all of this fabulous work by Rosemary!!
Until next time……Happy Quilting!!!!
Absolutely stunning in all respects!
Thank you!!
Jane, this quilt is definitely a work of art. Ihave done several wall hangings with wool appliqué, and I know the time and patience required to complete the handwork. Your quilting enhanced the beauty and artistry of this quilt. I can tell that you so enjoyed ‘cruising along’ with your creative feathers! Excellent work!
It was definitely a challenge to quilt this, but it was also fun at the same time!!
A work of art by both of you. This needs to be shown in a competitive quilt show!
It sure would look good hanging at a show!!!
Absolutely stunningly beautiful!
Thanks!!
Wow! Absolutely gorgeous! I agree with Ellen- this belongs in a show.
Rosemary will most likely not enter it in a show, but I am sure it will hang somewhere that she can see it every day!!
This quilt is absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail and the exquisite work is awe inspiring. Kudos to your friend who made it. She definitely made the right decision when she asked you to quilt it. Your work is always beautiful. You chose to compliment the applique and to further highlight its beauty.
Thanks, Kitty!!!
Beyond words….a work of art. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks so much!!!
