This past weekend, I was working as a Superior Threadology Educator in the Superior Threads booth at the AQS Des Moines show. It was a wonderful time and I so enjoyed meeting and talking with so many people in the booth. I also had to give a 20 minute lecture on thread. This was a little daunting to me, but the audience was very receptive and helped out with some great questions.
One thing that kept me laughing all weekend was my experience on my way out to Des Moines. I left BWI airport (Baltimore) and had a connecting flight in Chicago. After my group was called to board I got in line with my quilted tote bag with a “quilt themed saying” luggage tag on it. I hear the gentleman behind me say…..”It’s great to see what your hobby is just from your luggage tag”. Inside, I was laughing hysterically, as I was thinking….”Buddy, this is no hobby….this is my passion and my job”. I guess to him, I was just one of those “quilt ladies”!! LOL!!! But then again….who knew that a hobby would turn into this awesome career!!!
I have met so many wonderful people in this industry, both teachers and students!! I have never been much of a traveler until now, and I still sometimes wonder about all the travel, but when I receive a message like this one below, it makes it all worth while and reassures me that I am doing the right thing!!
Here is the message I received from a student (Gregg): “I was in one of your classes at the Fall show, Jane. Your class and your workbooks have given me the confidence to take on quilting the UFOs I have sitting around. I’ve practiced in the workbooks every day and keep them by my home machine while quilting as a reference. I so appreciate the advice and encouragement from you. And if anyone reading this is considering a class with Jane – just do it! You’ll be glad you did.”
It just makes my heart happy to know that I helped someone learn free motion quilting!!!
Anyway, I can’t close this post without showing a wonderful Halloween Quilt that I had the pleasure of quilting for Tina. Here are a few photos:
Happy Quilting everyone!!!
