This month I was honored to be included in the Pinktober Blog Hop that was sponsored by Island Batik, Aurifil Thread and Quilters Perfect Klips. This fabulous blog hop is hosted by Brianna Roberts of Sew Cute & Quirky.
Island Batik has two collections of Breast Cancer fabrics. I chose the Positively Pink Collection.
Isn’t it fabulous!!!!
Here is everything that I received in my package to use for this project.
I chose a white background fabric, a pink binding fabric and a black accent fabric. All of them from Island Batik!!
Aurifil and Quilters Perfect Klips were so generous in also sending us some thread and these wonderful klips!!! The klips can be found at Hobby Lobby.
Now to decide what quilt to make with these luscious fabrics. I wanted to make sure to showcase these fabrics as they are just so beautiful and meaningful.
One of my “go to” quilt patterns is a Tossed Nine Patch. This quilt goes quickly and makes a wonderful quilt. I searched on the internet and found a layout that I liked, and went to work. There are so many ways to lay out a Tossed (or disappearing) Nine Patch, so I put together a little video of the process. It is amazing to me that with a simple nine patch block, you can make so many different types of quilts!!
Breast cancer, or any type of cancer, is brutal. I have had friends and relatives that have been affected by many different types of cancer. Not only does it affect the individual but also greatly impacts their family and friends. Supporting those going through the cancer process is so important. Everyone needs some kind of assistance….a meal, help with errands, someone to talk to, a card…..and just knowing that there are people that care!!
Please make sure that you do your self exams and that you get your annual mammograms and checkups done. Do not put them off!! Yes….a mammogram can be uncomfortable for a moment or so, but it is well worth that discomfort to make sure that you do not have anything suspicious that would require more testing!!
Cancer in general is a horrible diagnosis to get, regardless of what type of cancer you have. I am positive that you always remember the day that you get that diagnosis!!
Eleven years ago, I received a phone call that still seems so fresh in my mind. It was my doctor telling me that I had uterine cancer. Three weeks later, I was in the hospital having a complete hysterectomy and testing of surrounding areas. Fortunately for me, it was all contained in the uterus, which I am extremely grateful for. I cannot even begin to tell you how fortunate I feel.
I encourage everyone to get your mammograms, colonoscopies, skin cancer checks, and to seek a doctor when something doesn’t seem right. You know your body best…..listen to it!!!
I am also sending a huge hug to those that are currently going through cancer……whether it be you or someone in your family, or a good friend.
Here is a picture of my final quilt!! I have gifted this to a special lady that has gone through breast cancer. She was thrilled to receive this quilt!!
Thank you to everyone involved in this blog hop:
