So……these One Block Wonder quilts have become somewhat addictive!!! This one has been on my design wall for quite some time and as I needed the space, I decided I needed to push through and get this done!!
I ended up using two fabrics for this one. After I had the first fabric cut and blocks sewn, I wasn’t really happy with any of the layouts, so I decided to get a coordinating fabric within this line of fabric so I could get some more contrast. Fabric is from Moda – LuLu by Chez Moi for the main fabrics and the binding, and Basicgrey by Moda for the accent border.
I have to tell you though, that I was not liking this OBW at all, which is why I think it stayed on my wall for so long. Like I said, I needed the design wall space, so I forced myself to sew it together, and added an accent color for the first border and then the actual fabric for the second borders.
I quilted this with Quilter’s Dream wool batting, which makes it have such a soft drape and a nice loft.
I have to say that in the end, I am now really liking this one!! 🙂 Although, I am not sure I am going to keep it as it may end up as a gift for someone in the near future.
While most OBW’s end up just using one fabric to make all the blocks, don’t be afraid to try adding an extra fabric, especially if what you have already needs some variety in color that you aren’t getting with just the one fabric.
There are no quilt police and the beauty of these quilts is that each quilt will be unique!!
Happy Sewing Everyone!!!
It really is soft and lovely and I like the use of the 2 prints and really like the coral fabric, too.
Thanks, Ellen!!!
