Welcome to the Lone Star Blog Hop with Island Batik.
This is the final project for 2022 and the Island Batik Ambassadors were challenged to make a Lone Star Quilt.
I had received a “surprise package” earlier this year to be used for the Lone Star Blog Hop. I absolutely loved the fabric line, which is called Naturescape by Jerry Khiev.
I have to say that a traditional Lone Star quilt has never been on my radar to make. But as is many other challenges that we have been given, this made me go outside my comfort zone.
I searched for Lone Star patterns and came up with one that I thought would really showcase the fabric. It is called Modern Lone Star by Linda Robertus-Blue Jacaranda.
As far as the pattern goes, it was well written. I did have to map out how to piece this as I wanted to create a pattern of sorts with the fabric instead of it being more scrappy like the pattern is written.
I added a neutral to this called Champagne, which I had received earlier this year also. It worked so well with this quilt!!
I am going to admit that I did make some mistakes as I was piecing this, and ended up having to remake a few of the strip sets. LOL!!!
Now onto the quilting. I would have loved to custom quilt this with all of that negative space, however, I was crunched for time, so I did an edge to edge pattern on this. My Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher helped in this area!!
Hobbs batting was used in this quilt. Aurifil thread and Schmetz needles made the piecing go smoothly and my Prairie Spirit Alpacas Pressing Mat and Oliso iron did a phenomenal job of making my seams lay flat.
All in all, I love how this turned out!!!
Here’s a closer look at the quilt!!
AND THERE IS MORE………………………………………………………………….
A little surprise………I had a lot of strips leftover after making the cuts for this Modern Lone Star Quilt and I couldn’t stand to see them go to waste. So……I made a second quilt!!!
And here it is quilted and the binding attached!! I’ve decided to part with this one (along with several others), and it is available for sale in my Etsy store. It is a really nice sized throw quilt or couch quilt.
Disclaimer: All items in the making of these quilt were kindly donated by industry partners
Make sure to check out all the other Lone Star Quilts by the other ambassadors!! Everyone had amazing fabrics to work with!!

Gorgeous Jane! I love the “sashing” or dividers, plus your extra quilt.
Thanks, Claudia!!!
Your ‘extra’ is as beautiful as your first! LOVELY!
Thanks so much Sally!!!
Beautiful quilt. I also like the sashing between the diamonds. It makes the quilt more interesting.
That’s kind of what drew me to the pattern!! I loved the sashing in there!!
Love, love, love both of your quilts!
Thank you so much!!!
these fabrics are wonderful. both your quilts are gorgeous. I love how you added the white strips between the colored fabrics. I love how you made the second quilt different. thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Thanks so much!!!
Both are gorgeous, Jane! The addition of the strips between the diamonds makes the first look like a beautiful, intricate snow flake!! Since you are an HP educator, I have a question for you. I am searching for a motif similar to that you used in the second quilt, that has pebbles in the center. Have you seen one similar? I can email you a photo if you’d like. Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilts!
Both of the quilts are beautiful. Love the fabrics.
Thanks so much!!! 🙂
Once again a beautiful quilt. You are creative and an awesome quilter. Merry
Christmas to you and yours.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
this is so gorgeous, any chance of a pattern? your color choice is also stunning.
I used a pattern from Etsy for the Lone Star quilt, and for the extra quilt, I just made it up as I went along!!
Your quilt is really beautiful. It looks like a tile creation. Thanks for keeping it real by acknowledging that we don’t always get things right the first time. Perseverence is an excellence habit to build. (My dad would have called it a muscle. grin)
The sashing in between the diamonds gave a very different look to a classic design. You had a lovely palette to work with. Beautiful job.
Beautiful and unique looking Lone Star. I love the extra quilt you made with the leftover strips, too. Have a great day!
