It’s my turn for the Island Batik Try A Tool Blog Hop!! I am super excited about this and hope you enjoy this post!!!
This month, I started out knowing that I had the Deb Tucker Tucker Trimmer to work with,
and I had this gorgeous line of fabric!!!
This is Moonlight Sky by Kate Colleran. This is fabulous and will be shipping to shops this month!!!
So with this tool, the first thing I thought of was Half Square Triangles (HSTs). So I sat down and drew out an idea for a quilt on graph paper. Phew….it was going to take a lot of HSTs, but with this tool, I was up for the task!!
I also had this fun tool (Quilter’s Magic Wand) to help me mark my sewing lines on the back of the white fabric. You sew on the lines and cut down the middle. It worked perfectly!!!!
I have to say trimming up my HSTs was a breeze using the Tucker Trimmer!!!! It is amazing to me how just trimming off a little from each pieced block makes for such perfection!!!
I paired the HSTs with white solid batik and also used gray solid batik for the borders. I also used this green fabric (Apple) for the cornerstones.
Here are a couple of progress pictures!! I did my piecing on my Handi Quilter Stitch 510, using my Schmetz needles and Aurifil thread.
Once the top was done, I layered my quilt with Hobbs Cotton/Poly blend batting and went to town on the quilting. To see my quilting process, you can head over to YouTube.
I was super excited that I had the perfect color Aurifil thread to hand stitch the binding on the back!!!
Here is the final quilt picture. I have named this quilt “Heading North”.
This quilt measures 56″ x 56″ and makes a beautiful throw. I just love how all the colors from the Moonlight Sky fabric collection make this such a vibrant quilt!!
And guess what???? I wrote my first quilt pattern while making this quilt. The PDF pattern is available for purchase and download on my website or on Etsy. If you purchase the pattern, I hope that you will email me a picture of your finished quilt!!!
