Marvelous Minis was our theme for our August 2022 Island Batik Ambassador project!
I have to say I was super excited about this one and I knew just what I wanted to do.
I had made this mini before and put it under glass, instead of quilting it, and knew that this was the pattern I wanted to use.
The pattern is in a book called Kindred Spirits by Jill Shaulis and Vicki Olsen of Yellow Creek Quilt Designs.
The pattern is a paper pieced design, and while I am not a huge fan of paper piecing, it does give you the precision you need in mini quilts.
This mini quilt uses four log cabin blocks. Each block finishes up at 4″ x 4″. There are 45 pieces in each block, which means that for the four blocks there were 180 pieces!!! Wow!!
Once I had all four pieces done, I added a little border.
I then layered the quilt top with Hobbs Fusible batting and a solid turquoise Island Batik fabric. I then did some straight line quilting on my HQ Stitch 510 using the perfect color Aurifil thread!! My Schmetz needles did an amazing job on this project!!
At that point I decided to add a faux flanged binding to add a little pop!!
All in all I am thrilled with this project!!! The yellows and oranges were from my Island Batik Stash Builder rolls, and the other fabrics were from my Island Batik stash!! This mini measures approximately 10.5″ square and I just love it!!
I hope that you will check out all the other Island Batik Ambassadors, as they show off their Marvelous Minis during August 2022.
Happy Quilting!!

Jane, I love the color choices and the pattern. It reminds me of ‘sunflowers for Ukraine!’ Your quilting complements the design so well. Our Cranberry Quilters’ Show in September features minis that we raffle off to our lucky visitors. Thanks for sharing your lovely creation! 🌻🌻🌻
