This year starts out on a wonderful note with a bundle of gradation fabrics from Island Batik. Mine was called Brilliant Blues.
While this was given to us in a fat quarter assortment, yardage is available at quilt shops.
I was ecstatic when I received these colors. They are just so yummy and calming!!! Here they are all laid out.
Many times, I look at my AccuQuilt to see what I have that I might be able to use to make a quilt, when I am in the designing stage. Using the AccuQuilt certainly does make cutting out your fabrics very quick and easy!!! I had just gotten the Tumbler block die, so I decided to put that to good use!!
After coming up with a plan on EQ8, I decided I would limit myself to only some of the blue!!
Once the quilt top was complete, I decided to use some of the coordinating fabric that I had been given to make the backing. I ended up using “Marine”.
So here is the finished top and then below is the finished quilt. I’ve titled this quilt “Making Waves”.
The finished quilt even had a scrappy gradation of fabrics for the binding!! It turned out wonderful!!!
And guess what???? I wrote a pattern to go with this quilt. To purchase the pattern, you can head over to my “store” page or to my Etsy shop for a PDF download. Not only is it AccuQuilt “Tumbler Die” friendly, but I have also included a paper template in case you don’t happen to have an AccuQuilt and would like to make this quilt.
Batting was Hobbs 80/20 Bleached Batting, which worked great under the white batik background fabric. And I almost forgot to say that I used my Schmetz needles when sewing this project!!

This looks like a fun quilt to make and easy to make bigger by adding additional to the rows or additional rows to the quilt, or enlarging the tumbler shape itself. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much!!
OOOOO! BLUE BLUE BLUE! My FAVORITE color! It was so interesting to see Tumblers on their sides….without small children involved! I will have to check this fabric out AND your pattern. I learned so much from the Handi Quilter video s you did with Vicki Hoth. Thank you Jane!
I’m so glad my videos helped!! Thank you!!!
Your gradations quilt is lovely, Jane. I love how you turned the tumbler blocks on the sides. This reminds me of the ocean waves!
Blues are my favorite. Wonderful quilt.
