I am so excited to announce that I am a 2021 Island Batik Ambassador!!!
This means I will get to make all kinds of projects throughout the year using Island Batik fabric. Please make sure to follow along with me and sign up to receive my blogpost directly!!!
What comes in an Island Batik Box? You’ll get to see a little later this month, so be watching my blog and Facebook and Instagram. You won’t want to miss seeing all the great products I get to use in the coming months!!
Each month we are to do a project. This month we had the opportunity to make placemats.
I chose an Island Batik stash builder roll and used four of those fabrics along with some background fabric, and binding fabric.
The Strip Smart Quilts II by Kathy Brown and the Double-Strip Ruler from Creative Grids were a perfect combo for what I had in mind.
These placemats came together so quickly. Two strips of fabric are sewn together, then using the markings on the ruler, the triangles are cut. It’s a fast way to make a quick quilt top…..or in this case placemats!!
Once pieced, I quilted them on my Handi Quilter Amara, using ruler work, free motion quilting and I used the ProStitcher for the spirals on the table runner. This is one of my own rulers that I’ve designed. All of my rulers are available in my shop.
I used Hobbs Batting (cotton) for these placemats and table runner, which quilted like a dream!!
I did a faux piped binding on these which I stitched on with my HQ Stitch 510 machine. I love a piped binding look!!
These placemats and table runner are looking pretty darn good!! I am so happy with them!!!
Thanks so much for following along!!!!
Happy Quilting!!!
Disclosure: Some of the products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and Hobbs Batting.
Go girl! Congrats.
Thanks, Ramona!!! 🙂
I love those placemat so much! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Thanks, Lynn!! I have some fun projects lined up!!
So beautiful!!! I would show them off to my guests and put them away just before serving the gravy 😀
Thank you!! I’ll make sure to put away before serving gravy!!! LOL!!
How pretty!! They could be the center piece of your table.
I do plan on using them, although my Mom has sort of claimed them at this point. LOL!!
They are beautiful! Love your quilting too.
Thank you!!
Congratulations!!!
this placemat project is awesome , looking forward to seeing all your ideas throughout the year.
Congratulations
Love the placemats
Thanks so much!!!
They are beautiful!!! Stunningly beautiful!!!
Thanks so much!!! Very simple to make!!
Very pretty! I love the colors and the straight line quilting. I would want to sit at this beautiful table! (But like Preeti, the gravy would make me nervous!)
Thank you!! I may do just that….lol!!! Although they are washable, which is a good thing!! 🙂
Welcome to the team, and great first project. The colors you picked are perfect, and the quilting is wonderful.
Thanks so much!! I am a much better quilter than I am a piecer, so this year will certainly make me go outside my box!!
Well, THESE are beautiful! I love batik fabric, and will look forward to your projects. Congrats on your new “Ambassador” position–what a great job! Who wouldn’t want a box of fabric and goodies to be delivered periodically to her mailbox with the instruction: have fun with these; create something lovely.
Thanks for your comments and encouragement!! I can’t wait to show everyone what all I had in my box.
The piped binding is beautiful! Neat idea. Love the quilting too.
Thanks for the comments!!! I love piped binding, cause it makes it easy to machine stitch all the binding on!!
Congrats to you! I really love the placemats and table runner. Your quilting is so perfect for the piecing, crisp and vibrant! I would keep them safe from gravy if your mom decides she doesn’t want them. Just sayin’ . . .
Jane, you didn’t disappoint! The placemats are lovely. The fabric is great but your quilting brought it to a new level!
Awww….thank you!!
