This quilt, called Hubble, came to me earlier in 2014, from my friend/quilter, Ellen. As usual, I photographed the quilt and printed out a picture of it and then proceeded to doodle on it until I had a general idea of what I was going to quilt. Fortunately, I had free reign to do whatever I wanted….which I love!!!!
Now….just because I have something doodled on the paper does not mean that that is exactly what I am going to quilt. In fact there were some areas that I totally changed up on a whim as I was quilting it. And of course the whole time I am quilting, I am just praying that my customer will be pleased!! And yes, there are times I quilt an area of a quilt and then I am just not happy with the stitching design and have to spend time picking out those stitches!!! That is one part of the process that I do not enjoy at all!!!! LOL!!!!
This quilt is from a pattern from Carrie Nelson entitled “Hubble” and is a Schnibbles Charm Pack Pattern from Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company. Carrie recently made a career move from being an independent pattern designer to working for Moda. I am sure she will be a great addition to their team!!
Ellen used all Kaffe Fassett fabrics with a background fabric called Bear Essentials from P&B Textiles.
Hubble first made it into the local quilt show and won a “Reserved Grand Champion” award.
After this, it went on to the Maryland State Fair where it took a 2nd place in its category.
After these two shows Ellen decided to enter it into the Pennsylvania National Quilt Show. It was accepted to hang, which is a huge honor in itself!!
A couple of days after the show, Ellen told me to look at the blog below. Well, what a surprise when I opened the blog and this blogger was writing about her four favorite quilts of the PNQS….and scrolling down…..there was Ellen’s quilt with both of our names mentioned. What an honor that was!!!

Now for the Kaffe part of the quilt!!!!!………………
My next venture in October was to take a class from Kaffe Fassett (which I will write about in a future post). Ellen thought it would be fun for me to take “Hubble” and show it to Kaffe. So I did!!!!! 🙂
Well, as you can see below….he loved it!!!
I think that we will never wash this quilt again!!! LOL!!!
All in all we have had a great time with this quilt!! It was such a fun quilt to quilt and I love it more each and every time I see it!!!
Absolutely beautiful! Congrats to you and Ellen. Great job.
My most favorite quilt!!! So very happy you made it shine and that you were able to share it with Kaffe and Liza!
