In November 2024 it’s all about the Dresden Plate block for our Island Batik Ambassador Dresden Plate Blog Hop!!
The Dresden Plate, is a quintessential block in quilting, and is known for its captivating radial design featuring pie-shaped wedges arranged in a circular patter, resembling a delicate flower.
I was given a half yard bundle of a new Island Batik fabric line called, Paradise Palms by Kathy Engle.
In all honesty, these aren’t my normal colors that I gravitate to. They truly are gorgeous though!!
Being an Island Batik Ambassador has really pushed me, at times, to work with fabric lines I typically wouldn’t choose, or a block that I didn’t really think that I wanted to make. Well, with the November assignment, I was hit with both. But, as in the past, I have found that working outside of your comfort level can really be rewarding!!! For that I am so appreciative of this program!!!
Anyway, I first had to figure out what kind of quilt I wanted to make. I really wanted to make something a little different than a typical Dresden block, and had remembered seeing a quilt at a local quilt show that resonated with me. I contacted the maker of that quilt, and got the information that I needed to really get excited about making this!!
I chose to make a Modern Dresden. There are several patterns and techniques out there, and I followed different makers, however, I found the original pattern here.
I used Erin Underwood’s 15 degree triangle ruler for this project and it worked beautifully!!
I am loving how the blocks are turning out. I used a soft neutral called Ghost as the background fabric and I think it really offset the colors in this collection beautifully!!!
My Schmetz needles helped with sewing this beauty together along with Aurifil Thread. I also used Hobbs batting when I quilted this one.
In the end, I am super happy with how this project turned out.
A special thank you to those companies that provided items for this quilt: Island Batik, Hobbs Batting, Oliso, Schmetz Needles, and Aurifil Thread.
It’s A Giveaway!!!!!!

That’s quite a different Dressden Plate block but I really do like it! Great piece of quilting and thinking out of the box Jane😍
I love your quilt. It looks sooo beautiful hanging next to the tree. Green is my favorite color and I love all the gorgeous greens this bundle has. Thank you for sharing today.
Pretty quilt looks great next to the tree with the same color.
I’m not usually a fan of the Dresden plate block, but I love this version! Thank you for sharing.
Was the Ghost background fabric also an Island Batik?
Love the modern look of the pattern.
Yes!!
It’s fun to see all the Dresden variations. Your quilt looks beautiful in those fall colours!
I love your modern Dresden quilt, Jane! These aren’t necessarily my colors either, but I love the collection and it makes a great fall quilt! In the fall, I do like working with these colors!
What a fun quilt! I love the pic of your individual blocks, too. They look like a lot of fun to make. Have a great day!
